Assisting, Collaborating, and Training ESL Secondary Content Teachers

ACT-ESL: Training>Summer Institute

The Summer Institute is the first stage of our 3-tiered training, which includes Summer Institute, Technical Assistants, and Building of Professional Learning Communities. The participants of each session will be a cohort of 12-15 content teachers in each core-subject area of English/Language Arts, Social Studies/History, Math, and Science. The participants learn instructional strategies, the characteristics of ELLs, lesson planning (SIOP model), content literacy and language analysis. In addition, the teachers see demonstrations and practice their new skills.

The first summer dates are: June 16-20, 2008 for English/Language Arts and Social Studies/History teachers at the Fulghum Center and June 23-27, 2008 for Math and Science teachers at Meadowbrook High School; hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (30 hours total). Lunch 12-1 p.m. will be provided. Teachers receive a stipend for participation.
